Last Let’s Act! of the season

posted in: Info | 0

Our next acting workshop, which is to be held on Wednesday 18th June 2025 from 8.00pm to 10.00pm, is the last of the season for 2024/25.

This month’s workshop is to be jointly led by Ella McDonnell and David Thompson, both very experienced SADC members, who are fresh from their highly successful Carshalton at War, a tribute to the residents of Carshalton who lived through World War II, which was performed by SADC in March.

In this workshop we’ll be looking at themes of loneliness and self-absorption on stage; how the solo actor can talk directly to the audience, performing soliloquies, expressing inner thoughts and breaking the 4th wall. From a Midsummer Nights Dream to Alys, Always, playwrights have used the breaking of the fourth wall to draw audiences into the action of a story.

There will be the usual whole group work exercises, movement, and small group improvisations on the themes of loneliness, and “self-explanation”, as well as relevant scripted scenes, ancient and modern!

Whether you are an experienced SADC member or a potential new member, keen to find out what it’s all about, join us for Let’s Act!

We look forward to seeing you there.

Please note that these evenings are free to members with an up to date membership or to anyone over 18 years old wishing to try a Let’s Act! workshop event for the first time. A charge of £3 will be made for all other attendees.

Let’s Act! workshops are held in the Rehearsal Room at the The CryerArts Centre, 39 High Street, Carshalton SM5 3BB from 8.00pm to 10.00pm. Access to the Rehearsal Studio at the CryerArts Centre is by the side door on the right hand side of the building and is on the 2nd floor. If the door is closed, press the intercom button to gain access.
