January Let’s Act! – “Loving to Loathing”

posted in: Info | 0

Our next Let’s Act! acting workshop will be at 8.00pm on Wednesday 14th January 2026 in the Rehearsal Room at the CryerArts Centre and will be led by David Thompson, one of our most experienced directors and a regular leader of these workshops.

The theme David has chosen is the emotional ranges possible in acting – Loving to Loathing.

As well as the usual group physical warm-ups and introductory group work the group will be be exploring the emotional ranges possible and group responses to emotional set-ups before we will split into pairs to work on texts ranging from Shakespeare to Stoppard, from Arthur Miller to Jessica Swale.

Each pair will be able to work as speaker and listener, alternating on the same text.

We will be working on phrasing, intensity, volume, pace, switching from one emotion to another,
and above all, variations of stress and emotional truth. Be prepared to be wearing hearts on sleeves!
But don’t be scared of exploring hidden depths of loathing, anger, mockery and sorrow as well as
loving, admiring, joyful playing, sincerity and subtle ‘fancying’!

Whether you are an experienced SADC member or a potential new member, keen to find out what it’s all about, join David for some post Christmas fun and catch up with all the SADC news.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Please note that these evenings are free to members with an up to date membership or to anyone over 18 years old wishing to try a Let’s Act! workshop event for the first time. A charge of £3 will be made for all other attendees.
